30 November, 2020. The December heat has hit the streets and Mutual Friends led the way this past weekend with a fire line up, classy venue and good people. The biggest highlight has to be filling up the venue to maximum capacity.
Mutual Friends is an annual music event held in Johannesburg, Gauteng. It was founded in 2019 by 3M Dinesty and DJ Soweto with the aim to bring people together at a spot where music, food and fun is at. This event is held at various venues across the province with the idea to attract new people and also tag along existing supporters and form mutual friends.
This year, the event was hosted at Recharge Braai Lounge in Midrand one of the boutique entertainment places in the north of Johannesburg.
Founder and organizer of the event Sipho Mbokazi known as “DJ Soweto” says the he is still amazed by the turn out of people and support for this year after the day started with some rain.
“When I saw the rain and weather being very bad I was really worried that people won’t come and it won’t be a success all the hard work we’ve put in for nothing, only to see later the sun coming out and the weather getting warmer my spirits was uplifted” said DJ Soweto
Moreover, co-founder Catherine Mahamo also expresses how unbelievable everything unfolded beyond her expectations.
“The event was beyond my expectations… I am truly humbled by the overwhelming support we received, it’s always hard to turn people away, and we had to because the venue had reached maximum capacity. To my team , 3M Dinesty , Dej Soweto and Bear Relations , well done to all of Us! And Our sponsors , Whitley Neil Gin , what a powerful brand to be associated with!” said Mahamo
Part of the line up, the crowd experienced the kick master Dr Malinga performing the likes of “Akulaleki “ on stage and says the response from the audience and energies were amazing.
“Everything was great, the people are fun and to be here with my artists feels good to see them also get such opportunities “ said Malinga
Joining Malinga on stage is “Mbube” hitmaker TLT Amazing, DJ Slique and Sbo F among others who held it down for the crowd.
The brains behind the marketing and public relations of the event Bear Relations feels proud of the level of media presence and support throughout the advertising of the event.
“We signed at the time when the team at Mutual Friends had put together almost everything, so it was quite difficult to catch the ball in the air and figure out how to keep it flowing but because we understand the brand and it’s target audience and market we managed and I can say the experience was absolutely amazing” said Founder & Managing Director of BR Buhle Mbhele
Mbhele also thanks the media for their support and trust in the creative agency and event.
Mutual Friends is set to return next year 2021 in August and it is expected to be bigger than this year.
