Busiswa reveals the inspiration behind the artwork for her new song “Makazi” featuring Mr jazziq. The official artwork for the recently released song features Busiswa wearing a native attire and looking like mother Earth.
According to her, the artwork references an old transkei postage stamp which depicts Xhosa women and their attire. “My artwork referenced an old Transkei(homeland) postage stamp depicting #Xhosa women’s attire & headpieces,” she said.
Postage stamps were used as a way to publicize culture or special occasions since the 1800’s. “I created this artwork because I aspire to be the face that appears when you Google my people or my culture. The song #Makazi is also a celebration of how we “Turn up” traditionally, where I come from,” she concluded.
