Master KG Dumps The Record Label That Gave Him Fame And Fortune

Master KG has reportedly parted ways with his record label, Open Mic Productions.

The Jerusalema hitmaker, whose real name is Kgaogelo Moagi, is said to have signed a new deal with world-renowned music distributor Warner Music in Italy, and will entrust his new record label, Wanitwa Mos Entertainment, with his South African music affairs.

News of his departure was revealed by close sources at the stable, who have said that, because of his departure, Master KG was purposely excluded from his protégé Makhadzi’s latest album, African Queen, which was released on Thursday.

”He has worked on all of Makhadzi’s albums, but this time he was not involved because he has one foot out. They will do a mutual announcement of his departure soon,” said City Press source

Master KG discovered Makhadzi and introduced her to the stable, and has produced songs on her previous two albums, Matorokisi and Khokhova.

Another source said that Master KG marked his alienation from the stable by breaking his famous bromance with upcoming artist Prince Benza, whom he also introduced to Open Mic.

Master KG, who is currently touring Europe, did not respond to questions sent to him.

He recently announced the launch of his new record label through social media, sharing the following on his social media pages:

I’m officially chief executive of my own record label wanitwamos_entertainment. Please follow [for] more information soon.

His rumoured departure follows that of fellow artist Nomcebo Zikode, who left Open Mic and joined Sony Entertainment last year. Zikode accused the record label of owing her money for work she did on Jerusalema, which she co-wrote with Master KG.

“I have not been paid a cent by the label for #Jerusalema despite the song’s global success. I have been ridiculed, with efforts to marginalise my contribution …. I can’t stay silent on this anymore,” she said.

The matter between Zikode and Open Mic is currently sub judice. Open Mic failed to respond to requests for comment.
