Masakhane is a an entity originally created by the youth in the entertainment space in hopes to curb depression and mental illness among the youth especially in the arts industry.
Masakhane’ which loosely translates to ‘let us build each other’ sees us actively endeavours towards creating visible, youth driven change in our communities.
Masakhane is a push back against an epidemic which is ravaging the youth both internationally as well as locally, namely DEPRESSION and MENTAL ILLNESS.
This campaign is a solutions driven initiative aimed at reigniting the creative spirit of young South Africans.
Our experience has taught us that a sense of apathy resulting from a lack of opportunities contributes heavily towards depression.
As one of the ways to destigmatise and humanise depression and mental illness, we host annual interactive seminars where we partner with like minded entities and prominent figures in the arts space.
We’ve had 4 successful interactive seminars where people were educated and enlightened firstly about what depression and mental illness is and how they can deal with it.
This year, Masakhane has partnered with Impande YeSigodlo Family Spiritual Wellness Institute and as in past years, Masakhane has also partnered with prominent figures of the entertainment industry including:
R and B vocalist, Langa Mavuso
DiepCity’s Pastor Charlston, Chrispen Nyathi
