SAFTA winning editor gets an international nod

Multi South African Film and Television Awards winner Matodzi Nemungadi is proud to have been part of the award winning film Lubunyu, which means the naked intruder in TshiVenda.

Lubunyu won the Best African Film Award at the World Film Festival at Cannes. The awards were hosted in May 2025.

Matodzi is one of the highly sought-after drama editors in South Africa with 3 SAFTA’s under his belt, 2 for The River Emmy nominated telenovela and 1 for Isithembiso.

“Being part of an award winning film is truly humbling, especially a film rooted in my culture. I am certain this is the first of many film productions and international awards that I will be part of.” Said Matodzi Nemungadi

“Some of the best things to have experienced while working on Lubunyu is being able to wear several hats as the budget wasn’t sufficient to afford all the crew members needed.”

Budget restrictions aren’t new with South African productions, but hopefully, with more films winning internationally, budgets will be increased so production companies can pay cast, crew, and production members accordingly.
