South African singer and songwriter Cindy-Louise’s latest single, FEMME FATALE, is about celebrating and empowering women. But instead of being arrogant or antagonistic, the song is humorous and sassy.
“Let’s face it, women know they are in charge,” says the singer. “Women are powerful, intelligent, and talented. We are born leaders. We show this every day… and we do it in heels!”
Moved by the uplifting and empowering music of Ariana Grande, Cindy-Louise was inspired to write a song to celebrate women. “Like the name suggests, FEMME FATALE is alluring and implies that women are in control. You never know what we are planning or thinking,” she laughs.
That said, the track boasts a powerful message supported by a great tune. It has a smooth melody that will mesmerise listeners, and the lyrics are guaranteed to raise a smile.
The track, written by the artist herself, was recorded by Frank de Jong/Hal5 Studio. She once again collaborated with Clinton Nicholas Watts (chief mixer) and Andre Remesses Scheepers (arrangement and additional instrumentation) to ensure a flawless track. In addition to Cindy-Louise’s unique sound, the single features her trademark blend of genres – in this case, commercial pop and R&B with hints of dark pop.
As with her previous releases (Make It Out Here Alive, The Mask), which were well-received by radio stations and listeners alike, FEMME FATALE will be accompanied by a music video. Produced by Manda Productions and directed by Antonia Ackermans, it was shot in the Netherlands.
“In support of the song’s empowering message, I wanted the music video to showcase my sexuality and confidence as a woman. I wanted to show my body and the luxury that comes with loving and embracing who I am. Of course, no Femme Fatale story would be complete without a little danger…”
According to Cindy-Louise, the music video is a result of the combined creative efforts of everyone involved and “it was a privilege to work with a team who understands and expresses their artistry and imagination.”
Cindy-Louise currently lives in the Netherlands. She relocated from South Africa after university with the hopes of continuing her studies in the art of opera. Instead, she found herself dabbling with styles, genres, emotions, and vocal techniques, ultimately embracing indie rock.
The artist officially launched her music career in 2019 and has since taken the industry by storm, swiftly releasing a string of singles and steadily growing her fanbase. She also recently released her debut album, Humanity. She finds inspiration in everything around her and often uses her music to create awareness around social and/or emotional issues.
Despite being far from ‘home’, it is important for Cindy-Louise to share her music with her country(wo)men. “It is my way of staying connected to my homeland, especially as I cannot travel home to see my family and friends. This is my way of connecting and sharing my love of music with them.”
With the release of FEMME FATALE, this versatile young singer-songwriter is sure to reinforce her position as a rising star!
