Universal TV July Highlights

Here’s what you can look forward to this winter.

Season 1 – Premiere Mondays at 8 pm from the 4th of July

July’s must-see premiere is a fresh reboot of the original Fantasy Island, which featured Ricardo Montalban as the enigmatic Mr. Roarke. This new series stars Roselyn Sanchez as Elena Roarke, the latest owner of the island resort that can fulfil any fantasy. Elena has put her ambitions aside to continue the family legacy. Visitors to the magical and mysterious island this month include a morning show host with a culinary fantasy who realises that she’s hungry for more than food and a woman with a terminal illness who receives a new lease of life.

Thursdays from 8 pm

Shemar Moore stars as Sgt Daniel ‘Hondo’ Harrelson in this explosive reboot of the hit 1970s series. This month, the arrest of an immigrant leads to a series of protests, and the president of the police commission learns of Hondo and Jessica’s affair. The unit is on the hunt for a serial killer who escaped justice by faking his death before things get personal for Hondo when a friend gets killed during a joint FBI/S.W.A.T. mission, and the team protects a high-profile Russian journalist who has been threatened with assassination.

Fridays at 8 pm

Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson are back as sleuthing duo Matt Shade and Angie Everett. Shade and Tex team up after Angie is abducted, and when a client claims that his wife is under a mysterious influence, the case leads to a community of UFO believers. Further cases for the PI partners to crack this month include murder attempts against the leading actors in a Mexican soap opera, the hunt for a stolen comic book, and a stalker who is targeting a female golfer during a celebrity golf tournament.

Tuesdays at 8 pm

Detective Charlie Hudson (John Reardon) and his loyal partner Rex return as season four of the Canadian drama continues. With Sarah away on a wilderness adventure, Charlie and Rex probe the death of a college professor, and the hunt is on for a surprising thief when a stock market guru’s fortune disappears. The detective duo faces a race against time when a truck containing an explosive cargo is hijacked by criminals before the death of a florist leads to a seedy marketplace on the dark web.

Wednesdays at 8 pm

Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, Kelli Giddish, and the rest of the Special Victims Unit are back to investigate more cases on the mean streets of New York. Garland asks for a missing person case he investigated back when he was a rookie police officer to be reopened, and when a school reports a young girl missing, the team is on the hunt for a trusted family friend. Plus, when the only evidence of a crime is a confession made at church, Carisi must find another way to prosecute.
